How Research For Life works

Research For Life funds around twenty invaluable medical research and travel grants. Last year, over $350,000 worth of grants were made to medical researchers. These grants are funded from a carefully invested pool, together with money made available from donations and bequests.

Research For Life calls for grant applications in March and September of each year. The Foundation considers appropriate applications from individuals and research groups in the Wellington region.

The Foundation’s Research Advisory Committee assesses applications to ensure that the research funded has merit and that there is a high probability of it leading to improved patient outcomes and greater wellbeing for our community. All applications for funding are subject to rigorous peer review and applications must include independent referee reports.

Research is undertaken under the supervision of experienced medical research professionals in institutions such as at the University of Otago’s Wellington School of Medicine, Wellington, Victoria University of Wellington, Massey University, ESR and the Malaghan Institute of Medical Research.
